Critic : Unbalanced Harmony

His work begins with collecting objects. Eum Ki-xung, who is the 10th artist to participate in the Marunuma Art-Park Artist in Residence, is said to have started this way of working two years ago. Currently, in his studio at Marunuma Art-Park, his actually interesting collections, such as antique picture frames, horse statues with broken tails, and rusty shovels, are displayed as if they were already works of art. The appearance is reminiscent of an exhibition hall rather than a studio.

[Old objects seem to be alive, and new objects seem to be dead,] says Eum Ki-xung.
In other words, you can imagine the feeling that an old object accumulated over time is full of life, while a new object feels empty. In the end, it can be said that the thing he is filled with is life force. It may be said that his work is established through collaboration with such vitality.

Eum Ki-xung, who majored in ceramics and stage art at Sangmyung University and then at Kookmin University, originally produced vessels. Meanwhile, he moved to Itaewon in Seoul, which is said to have had a great influence on the changes in his work. In Itaewon, where various races and values were mixed, there were many abandoned items that were attractive to him. He almost got pulled over by the police while trying to move something he thought was abandoned to his car. The harmony created by the gathering of heterogeneities was on the streets of Itaewon.

He has been in Japan for two months, and he is said to be very intrigued by the strange and foreign feeling he felt in Japan. He says that the cultural background of ukiyo-e, traditional masquerade, kabuki, and sumo, as well as the extremely friendly communication of Japanese people, makes daily life in Japan, which he did not feel when traveling, quite stimulating to him. I am curious about what form his experience in Japan through this residency will be created in this exhibition. He said that the Shin Ramyun he had recently eaten in Korea was very spicy. In some sense, this power of compliance is the unbalanced harmony of Eum Ki-xung.

While I was in Japan, I once again realized the importance of language. Lack of communication leads to many errors.
Everyone experiences difficulties and embarrassment when their thoughts are not communicated properly. I am communicating using a mix of basic words and English, but it is not clear.
Would it be better if I expressed my frustration through work through the homonym word (Japanese)?
This work is about thinking about the lack of communication in Japan and trying to show what I think of the country called Japan by piecing together moving pictures rather than words.
